I’m often asked what’s involved in writing a script for a format TV series, so I thought it might be of interest to demonstrate the evolution of a screenplay, from the first glimmers of an idea through to pitch, premise, early drafting and final production script – by publishing everything I wrote in the process of completing a single, hour-long commission.
Because there is a lot of material involved, I’ve broken it down into chronologically arranged sections, listed below as they appear.
Pitch to Production 1: the research behind an idea.
Pitch to Production 2: describing the idea as a premise
Pitch to Production 3: producing a treatment.
Pitch to Production 4: the first draft.
